What is the cost to add on a medium sized bedroom or two to a house? Is it worth it to buy a cheaper 4 bedroom house or a more expensive 5 bedroom house?

If you can afford the 5 BR and spare yourself the construction headaches, I would definitely go that route. There's no way to know how much it will cost to add a BR or two because there are so many individual factors involved - supporting walls, location of electricity and plumbing, the need for permits, etc.
