How common is that? I had a baby girl three weeks ago and my friend had her baby girl a week ago. She just got her baby her ear pierced, and wondering when I’m going to take mine. I was thinking to wait until she’s a little older, dont really know when yet. One week seems so little, just wondering how common it is.

It’s a chasidish thing to pierce so early. If you’re not chasidish, wait until she’s old enough to ask and use it for a reward like toilet training etc. that’s basically the whole story in a nutshell.

My pediatrician said to wait until 3 or 4 month shots, I can't remember which exactly anymore. I pierced my baby's ears at 5 months which I thought was reasonable.
There is a thread from last week with pages and pages of responses on this topic.
Let's not rehash it all here.

My girls all got them at three weeks. They didn't have any issues with them at all and lived to tell the tale.

Very community based. If you are thinking to wait.... wait. No downside. (and get input from Dh).

If you're going to do it, remember that the safest place is a tattoo and piercing place. Never get your baby's (or anyone's) ears pierced at a mall kiosk.

I wanted to do it early and just get over it so baby wouldn't cry much, but waited I ready to set up a non essential appointment, which was when baby was a few weeks ago.

The place I brought my kids to said if you bring an infant, they want proof of a DTaP immunization (which isn’t given until the 2 month visit). I’ve never brought a kid young enough to need to prove that, but that’s what they told me.
