BD"E. Did anyone else kind of forget that he was paralyzed? That was part of his greatness. His disability did not define him in the slightest. And his goodbye note was so moving.

BDE. While he and I typically did not see eye-to-eye on most issues, I appreciated his intelligence, his rigor, and his contribution to political discourse. He will be missed.

He was a person of integrity and a much needed voice. He looked at the larger picture, the philosophical underpinnings, and knew how to cut to the essence of the matter. He was a vocal Israel supporter and a person who, like Zohar said, did not allow his disability to limit him or cause him to become bitter. Bde.

I'm trying to put some thoughts into words. Let me start by saying that I'm not familiar with all his writings, but have read some things, heard others. I'm under the impression that he may have known too much to be a tinok shenishba. But like a number of baby boomers, there was a drift, or disconnect. Some people had a less than stellar formal Jewish education, others had a weakly observant family... there are all sorts of factors that led to this. But he wasn't a mumar l'hach'is. At least, there was no l'hach'is in his public words. Wistfulness and respect, yes. And his public face of triumphing over adversity, a long-term marriage, his intellectual curiosity and integrity, his good humor and courtesy...I'm not Hashem's accountant but I would say that that public persona is scoring him some kiddush Hashem points now that aren't being cancelled out by other things.
