This question dawned on me recently. Are you allowed to use lubricant on Shabbos or is it like cream that you can't smear it?

Insert a glob instead of smearing it.

We were told to use KY Liquid on Shabbos because the jelly is smearing

You can insert a glob but then any stimulation with your hand would technically be smearing, so that's what I'm wondering about.

Thanks. What is KY liquid how do you apply it? Does it spill everywhere?

You can find it wherever you find the KY Jelly, the man applies it, not sure how a woman would manage that. It doesn't really spill everywhere, it's slightly less liquidy than water.

Did you try the KY Liquibeads? It’s a solid gelcap that you insert with an applicator. No shmearing. You just need to remember to either insert before shabbos or open the blisterpack before. You need to insert 30 minutes before and it supposedly works for 3-4 days.

I asked a VERY Chareidi, well known posek about that a few years ago (Rav Ostroy - Har Nof) and he told me that someone showed KY gel to Rav Elyashiv ztz"l (at that time he was still alive) and he said it's fine for Shabbos without any changes.

I was told to use liquid instead. (Personally I like using unrefined unscented oil much rather.)
