If I would like to reduce my hours after returning from maternity leave - when would I bring that up?

Before maternity leave?
While im on maternity leave?
After I come back and I'm back into the routine and being productive?
Wait till my yearly review?

Or none of the above...

Also, how do I ask?!

Eta-: I'm editing my op to try to get more responses.
I'm asking for 2 hours less a week.
I'm already on maternity leave and gave them the date I'm coming back..

I'm vacillating between asking now (in which case I need to ask like yesterday (!) Or waiting till I'm settled back.. in a few weeks.

If anyone can help me with what to say I would appreciate it..
(In case your rolling your eyes.. imamother has really been helpful with what to say in the past for other circumstances... Im hoping I can get help from you this time as well)

Thanks imas!

Is there a possibility that your employer will say - sorry this is a full time position only?

The question is, if your employer says no, will you return to work.

This. The answer makes a difference in how to approach this.

I work 7.5 hours a day now, which is not exactly full time (as in 9-5 or 9-5:30).
No, I don't think they'll say that.
They want me back.

As per the other thread, don’t go back to work.
You deserve to stay Home and be pampered.
Ask your parents and in laws to increase your support.
See, problem solved!

If you'll return either way, I'd bring it up before you go on maternity leave, to give them the best opportunity to accommodate you.

I am waiting to discuss everything during maternity leave. That's how I've always done it and it worked out. I find that my absence was felt very much while I was out, so they were quicker to accommodate just because they wanted me back no matter what.

How do you bring it up?
I hate these things..
I want to cut my hours to half an hour less a day

Also, Should I expect them to offer a pay cut?

you're asking for 2.5 hours less per week?

Yes they would probably drop your pay slightly. Personally, for 2.5 hours I would ask if I could leave an .5 hours earlier and work during lunch.

What do you do?

You have to know how valued you are as an employee. I knew I had the upper hand and was able to ask for an increase and cut my hours. When I was about two-three weeks post partum , with one boss I met him personally in his office to discuss it. At my other job I did the arrangements over the phone. This time I will send an email asking when we can schedule a phone call to discuss my return.
Always be prepared for a NO and how you will handle that realistically.

When I cut my hours after my second baby, I went to my boss and told him I was leaving because we made a family decision. He asked how we could work it out and my boss
, who likes me very much and I enjoy working there, suggested I work part time. It worked out well bh. I told him early enough that if management felt I needed to be replaced, would have time to train another person. Felt was only fair.

I'm on maternity leave now, and they know when I'm coming back..
I shouldn't wait till I'm back at work and productive? (Work is really good for my self esteem and confidence.. I'm good at my job BH, it's a good position and everyone likes me... Being on Leave makes me doubt myself)

Also, how do I bring it up..
I would like to discuss the possibility of leaving at xx:xx instead of xx:xx?

As an aside,
I barely take my lunch break...

No for 2 hours less (I already leave early on Friday..)

My job description is very specific, and I don't want to out myself..

So.. they know when I'm coming back, but I really want to call up and ask.... Anyone want to help with a script? It would really be appreciated.

Hi boss. I'm really looking forward to coming back to work. I'll be at my best if I can get my work-life balance sorted out, and I think it will work out well for me with .5 hours less office time per day - and I'm confident you won't see a decrease in the quality of my work.
