Yes. I wonder who he will be replaced with.

One thing's for sure: There won't be a dull moment in politics anytime in the near future. I cannot remember what a slow news day is anymore.

I think retiring is a more suitable word than resigning. (in his words: end regular active status).

Why do you think this will make things 'crazy on steroids'? Because of his yet to be determined replacement?

Switched the thread title- you're right.

And yes, the fight between partisans over the nomination, especially with everyone being all touchy about Gorsuch, is gonna bring the crazy up a notch.

This is so true.

There's been so much horrible news this week: The Supreme Court decisions weakening labor unions, upholding gerrymandering, upholding the travel ban; Kennedy's retirement; NY congressman Crowley being defeated by an anti-Israel young woman, who will be around for ages.

It's all horrible. I stopped reading the news for a few weeks, but started again during the separation of immigrant families. Now it's wave after wave of bad news. Ugh.

A federal judge in CA ruled that family separation at the border must end, and that all children be reunited with their parent(s) within 30 days (14 days for children under 5). Judge Sabraw also ruled that parents who are not yet in contact with their children must be placed in contact within 10 days.

That would sound like good news, but:

1. Given the lack of paper trail, there seems to be little practical means of reuniting many children with their parents. Many of the children are so young, they are preverbal, but even if they are verbal, if they are very young, how can they start looking for their parents?

2. I used to feel relieved when I heard a federal court had done the sane and right thing, but now I just wait in dread for a higher court to overturn their decision.

There's been great news this week - the Supreme court putting an end to forcing non-union members to make payments towards a group whose ideology they don't agree with; upholding the travel ban thus making the US safer; Kennedy's retirement which allows Trump to keep the court out of the socialist democrats' hands.

I do agree though that Crowley is bad news.

I was going to write something about how it should be easy since Trump promised that the government kept track of all the children, but I'm feeling discouraged too.

In other news, despite Trump's promise that North Korea no longer poses a nuclear threat, satellite images show that they've made rapid improvements to their nuclear material processing site.

Joy, I'm sorry you feel its all bad Sad

I actually found tremendous Chizuk in this ...

Now, Trump can hopefully put in someone very conservative, that will restore America to have values more inline with the Torah..

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 85, ... I don't cv"s, wish her ill. But possibly will Trump will have to replace her with someone conservative..

Because, England and WEurope are becoming more and more hostile to Jews..
Israel is in the process of of legislation that might hurt numerous frum Jews..

There always has to be a shearit hapleita. A country that is good to Jews..

Spain and Portugal went crazy, Amsterdam was very good to Jews.

Thousands of jews were running away from the Crusades and persecution in England/France and the massacres in the Rhineland.

Suddenly they heard a bas kol "Poh Lun" (rest here).. This lead to 1000 years of Jewish history in Poland that ended with the Holocaust..

Lets davern and hope America is the current benevolent place for frum Jews..

It would also seem that we have a complete buffoon at times to be leader of the free world. Hashem is showing us that we don't need a very distinguished gentleman like Ronald Reagan or Abe Lincoln to massively steer America back on course. Even D Trump will do.

BECAUSE HASHEM YIMLOCH LAOLOM VAED... and

LEV MELOCHIM BYAD HASHEM..

Well, yes, that's delightful news, knowing that N Korea is moving closer to being able to wage full-scale nuclear war.

You know what scares me even more than these poor children not being able to reunite with their parents? 23 and me's offer to help reunite through DNA matching. It sounds wonderful, but the potential privacy issues are horrendous. We really don't need a precedent of having DNA profiling done for "good" reasons, and then having our DNA profiles available to the government. That's a dystopian nightmare.

I was heartened to see that RAÍCES declined the offer from 23andme.

I didn't mean to imply that NK strengthening their nuclear arsenal was a good thing. But it's hardly surprising.

I don't think that Ocasio-Cortez would have been likely to win if not for events of the past few weeks.

One concern I would have about DNA sequencing would be that it could be used as a tool to deny insurance coverage (or charge much more for coverage) for preexisting conditions.

This has been a very interesting (for lack of better words) week in politics for sure, and it's only going to get more interesting.

Relax, everybody! Supreme Court Justices are like cats; they don't care what anyone thinks, least of all their "owners." In fact, I think they should wear clip-on tails attached to their robes just to remind everyone how little interest they have in the political machinations of the people who appoint them.

If you want to worry about something, worry about the upcoming Mexican election. Everyone is hoping that rhetoric from Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) is just that. If, however, he really means his idealization of Fidel Castro and starts nationalizing various industries, look for another Venezuela, only with more organized crime. If that happens, whether to separate illegal immigrant families will be the least of our troubles.

I read about this and found it very confusing. There are obviously serious privacy concerns, but given what we know about s-x trafficking by the cartels, it seems like the stakes are very high. How can we reliably guarantee that the people accompanying the children at the time of apprehension are actually related to them?

Fake news.

Kim Jung Un promised. I mean, sure, he promised before, but this time he really meant it. He and Trump have a very special bond. And he did cancel North Korea's annual anti-US rally.

(Fact is there's no deal yet. On either side. You wouldn't expect them to stop before a deal is reached. Not time to celebrate yet.)

May I suggest that if you want to discuss something completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, you start a new thread.

While 30 years ago, Supreme Court justices were somewhat unpredictable, that's no longer the case. There isn't going to be another Earl Warren. No one on Trump's list is going to surprise anyone by being a moderate. They're all too well known and vetted. And too beholden to their positions and beliefs.

Honest, if the Republicans believed that justices are not pretty much going to rule as anticipated, they wouldn't have stonewalled Merrick Garland, who actually IS a moderate. I mean, he was considered "superbly qualified," and Republicans said they'd confirm him if Clinton won (to stop her from appointing someone more liberal), but they still refused to hold hearings.
