Color, paint, play dough
Lego, magnatiles, cliks, blocks, etc. (They can build together or side by side)
Playground, ball, sprinkler- weather permitting.
Candy Land, chutes and ladders, etc
Trucks, trains, matchbox cars..

The same thing he would do on his own, but with a friend. With the addition of board games or ball.

Four year old boys can do many of the same things older children can do, it will just take more adult involvement and supervision.

Some ideas:
- Bake cookies or make rice crispy treats
- play a simple board game like Candyland
- Build with LEGO or Magnatiles
- coloring
- simple crafts
- play dough
- read them a story
- sprinklers or kiddie pool in the backyard (if you have one)
- when all else fails, put on a video!

At that age, I prefer to meet up in the park. The kids play together or don't. Nothing forced and everyone has fun.

I find my kids want a play date at age 4 (or earlier) but as soon as the other kid shows up, one or both get super shy and they just end up eyeing each other the whole time. But that's my kids.

The reason why I'm asking is because we've had kids who told me our house was boring...
We have lots of rest toys...

My boys are not into toys so much other than imaginary play etc.
They gravitated to play dough , arts and crafts, cookie and cupcake decorating, blowing bubbles, sidewalk chalk, swimming , going in the sprinklers, at that age.
