Hi. I never did this before, so want to know how much to charge. Someone in my neighborhood (never met them before) wants me to take her toddler off the bus every day and watch her for 2 hours, until she gets home from work,. How much do I charge?

Does $14 a day make sense?

I would assume like a regular babysitter, 6 or 7 an hour...

you are very sweet, I wouldn't do it for any money in the world! My kids are tired and cranky at the end of the day, I cant imagine dealing with someone else's.
If I would be paying someone to do it for me I would offer $20 a day.

I agree whatever babysitting in your area goes for hourly same thing. In Fl would be $10 per hour min

If you have your own kids, probably a bit less, because then it is group babysitting. If you don't have kids home then, I think more.

It's a hassle. It's an every day commitment that means you can't schedule a doctors appointment or run out on an errand. I would probably charge $15/hr (which is what most adult babysitters in my area charge).

And do this on a trial basis
Bus could come late. Weather could get to you
Kid could be difficult... and hungry (and cost yiu food)
Could interfere with family life
Personally I think you could charge extra for taking her off the bus
It's not like she's being dropped off at your door
Try it for a month and then commit
With the understanding g that if it gets to be too much then you'll give her some notice to find an alternative with no hard feelings
Or do this only a few times a week so you have days to schedule appointments
Good luck!

If she already has kids, that applies anyway. And maybe not doctors appointments, but no reason not to run errands with a toddler, or an extra toddler.

$6-$7 is laughable.
I would price it more in terms of what she would otherwise be paying for aftercare.
I wouldn't do it for less than $30-$40 per day.
It is a massive undertaking.

I agree with Oliveoil. The high school girls around here are getting $10 an hour for babysitting. You are an adult, and this is a daily commitment. I would say $15-20 per hour. Consider how much of a hassle it will be for you and then price it accordingly.

I did that with two kids. One kid for 3 hours, older kid about 2 hours. Big kids who came down from the bus themselves and went to the neighbor on their own. I paid 40.00 per day.

I did this as a single girl for in recent baby $13 an hour.
You should probably get between $15-17 an hour.

Sometimes last minute errands come up. Sometimes another kid wants a play date that requires driving or you realize last minute you ran out of children's Tylenol and your kids needs it. It's a big commitment.

$20 an hour come on that's too much I would say $10 sounds fair Bec that's how much it costs just make sure she has a back up in case you can't do a day also are you taking yours off the bus at the same time ?

Also what is watch? Is the toddler expected to play quietly while you cook dinner or are you expected to set up structured activities and clean up afterward like a daycare?
