Dd insists everyone goes to bed way later than her. Her bedtime is between 8 and 830pm. When does your child that age go to bed?

I wanted to do a poll but I don't see that option when I open a new post on my phone.

Hi, my DS goes to bed between 9:00 and 9:30 on school nights and at about 10:00-10:30 on non-school nights.

Great opportunity to teach your kid a few things.

1. How to negotiate a bedtime.
2. That her bedtime has to be what works for her and your family. What time does she need to get up? Is she cranky in the morning? Does she have to catch a bus?
3. One should decide what to do based on what is the correct thing. Not based on what everyone else does.

FWIW we all go to bed later in summer and I think that historically that would have been the case everywhere. You went to sleep after dark (except in the extreme north of course).

our soon-to-be 5th grader just started going to sleep at 8:45 p.m. But bedtime should depend In part on what time they have to get up, and in part on your observation of whether they need more sleep. Most children, unfortunately, are sleep deprived nowadays.

My 5th grader goes to bed at 8 on a school night and 9 when not. He has to get up by 7am. He's usually not in bed until 8:30 because we start bedtime at 8. My 3rd grader goes to bed the same time as him, but he technically go to bed later because he doesn't need as much sleep. Like another poster said, it depends on your child.

Op if your daughter wakes up on time on her own she can perhaps go to bed later but if you have trouble waking her in the am then she needs more sleep regardless of her age. My children have been explained this concept and are aware that bedtime goes accordingly. In fact my first grader often goes to bed later than 3rd grader because he needs less sleep and noone complains.

Same.

I say Shema with her and sit with her for a few minutes, and then I leave. I don't stay until she falls asleep.

This is an eye opener for me. I haven't changed dd's bedtime since 3rd grade. Partly because she'll read for another 2 hours anyway so I feel like I need to start at 7 something.
