Here we are again.
Round and round we go, through the year, through our lives
Our troubles and trials, our mundanities and gravities.
And yet, somehow we end up back here, time and time again...
Tisha B'av.
Same old story.
Loss, and heartache, and yearning.
Somehow, between serving foggy-brained bowls of Cheerios
And snatches of Eichah on the living room floor,
Will we get the message?
The message that will free us, once and for all?
And what IS that message?

"Eichah" the navi cries out.
"Eichah? Where are you?"
Do you know?
It's the same old story, but different.
We recline on scarlets and silks
Precious stones and finest gold for us.
It seems so unreal, the fire and the ashes
The smoke and the starvation
So far from our lives.
But on this one day, we take a hard look
At our true state.
Emotional, spiritual
Ragged, destitute, bereaved
Our impurity on our hems.
"Cry!" says the navi, "cry!
Don't hold back!"
Cry for all you have lost
And all you have yet to be
Don't hold back
Wallow in the sadness, drown in it
All your many, many sadnesses
Bereft children of this final generation
Emotionally orphaned
Lacking connection
Adrift
Apart.
Be in the pain
Stay with it
Don't push it away with buzzing distractions
As you usually do.
On this day
Tisha B'av
Be present in your absence
Feel your own numbness
Connect to your disconnection
Don't be afraid of your fear
Keep your loneliness company.

Your children cry out
What can you give them?
The sweet, sweet youth
You brought into this world
Crying out for nourishment
For sustenance
"Mommy, teach me
Mommy, show me
Help me
Love me..."
And you, you are so parched
So lost
So alone
You see their pain growing into yours
This deep, aching pain
That makes you cruel
The disconnect
"I can't..."

We all have our own sufferings.
Confusion, blackness
Darkness of the soul
Rage, grief.
"Where is He?
Why did He leave me here
And disappear?"
Is He behind the curtain?
Is He behind the wall?
What does He want from us
And can we find Him?
Can we seek out our own twisting paths
Through darkness and despair
Back to Him?

Here we are again.
Here we are.
We, us, this broken, battered generation.
So many slain,
So many lost over the years.
My heart, my heart!
It aches for the slain
And we remain.
Who are we?
We are nothing
We are everything.
We are the survivors,
The chosen.
The last hope.
It's down to us.
You, and me.
We, who will rebuild the walls
We, who must find our way home
After this long, long galus
With all our brokenness
And all our batteredness
All our heartache and torment
He is waiting for us
He wants us
Imperfect though we are
We, the mothers and wives
We, the iron-cored women
Who clutch and hope and never leave go
No matter how far we are
We will do it.
We will make it.
Come, let's go
Together now
Let's hold one another by the hand
Look deep within our hearts
Search out the way
One day
Before you know it
We will get there.

These were my own personal feelings and basically my mussar to myself. I struggle with connecting to my children even though I was neglected as a child.
