Just went to a few weddings and I’m going to comment. Because I can. Some dresses or outfits look ridiculous with shells! Resist the urge and put that dress back on the rack.

Huge keyhole in the back - not meant to wear with a shell!
Cold shoulder - looks ridiculous with shell!
Spaghetti straps- no and no
Plunging neckline - no
Plunging back- no
Shells that are the same color as your skin- no

At least I didn’t put this in ‘concerns of Jewish life forum’

Why do you care? This allows frum Jews to shop in cheaper places and have more options. Honestly it's not anyone's concern. In my opinion shrugs are ugly yet non frum people ruin all their gowns with it... to each their own really.

I respectfully disagree. Keyhole back can look great with shells, as do others you've described .
Spaghetti straps are a whole other issue which you're right about.

Keyholed back can look normal, depends on the top. Same with those tops that tie on the ends of the sleeves and have a hole through-out them.

If the top is a dark print on black, paired with a black shell, it looks fine.

Can someone post a keyhole dress with a shell that looks nice? I have only seen travesties.

Then again, I think pointed toes on a shoe is a travesty too...

Personally, I don't think much of anything should be worn with a shell. Just get a top/dress that's modest to begin with.

(I know, that's not always an option out of town. But in an ideal world...)

I think it's all fine except very revealing top with skin colour shell, because that looks not tzniut from a distance although it is, and it's kinda wierd.

I also don't really care if you like what I'm wearing, if I like it, that's what counts. And I feel the same way about you - enjoy what you wear Smile

Shells are ugly 99 percent of the time. There are so many long sleeved options these days.
