Girl in 20s is a super speller and punctuation fanatic, but doesnt have a BA.
Can you get a good proof-reading job w no B.A.?
Where do you begin looking for a proof-reading job?
Shes in Brooklyn. I think shed prefer a work at home position.

What does good mean?
I started at $15/hr and left at $20/hr. I could have made 25/hr but at that point I needed more work volume than I was being offered.

Was this work-from-home?
Where do you find a proof-reading job?
What are the typical requirements for proof-reading jobs?

I’d think a ‘good’ proof reading job would go to someone with experience or qualifications. why not take a proofreading course?

Yes. One also needs to be tech savvy to work from home as a proofreader, btw.
I found the job through networking.
I worked on a trial basis and they were happy with my work and kept me on. I have no degree, just natural love for reading and writing.

If youre familiar with the field, youd know more than others.
How would someone who is a super grammar expert and very tech savvy, but with zero connections in any related fields, find that kind of a job?

Reach out to publications and news media. That's how I got all my jobs.

I'm semi-retired but I freelance as a proofreader (and also as a transcriptionist - different clients). My degree was in math (I had started out wanting to teach math but took the mommy track instead, so I never used that degree). It was not a factor in my getting work as a proofreader. I had been a secretary most of my working life until finding this steady once-a-week position. I have natural gifts from Hashem for spelling and for correcting grammatical errors.
