We have a week between the end of day camp and the start of school. Our original plan was to do an overnight trip someplace, but we are nixing that plan in favor of day trips from the bungalow colony. We have loads of favorite places we've visited year after year, but we'd like to do some new trips. We don't mind driving a bit (let's say up to 2 hours).

What are your favorite Catskills trip destinations? All ideas welcome!

Lol. Pretty sure that's not the definition of a staycation.

Why not?

stay·ca·tion
ˌstāˈkāSHn/
nouninformal
noun: staycation; plural noun: staycations; noun: stay-cation; plural noun: stay-cations

a vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.

just curious, how do you define staycation? Do you define it as staying home as opposed to going on outings?

No one lives in a bungalow colony year round (she specifically references the bungalow colony).

And I'm pretty sure she's said she lives in Lakewood.

Did I use the wrong term? Sorry for any confusion!

For clarification: We don't live upstate but are here for a few months every summer. We've been doing this since I was a little girl, so it definitely feels like 'home.' When I said 'staycation' I meant that we would not travel to another location and sleep there, but will stay put in our summer home and do day trips from here.

Never did sam's point. I heard the hike is awesome but very challenging. Have you done it? Would it be ok for my (very athletic and fearless) 3 and 5 year olds?

Sams point reserve is a very challenging hard hike. It's too hard for little kids.

For many people spending a few days in a bungalow colony would be a vacation. Not a staycation. Unless you are working while in the bungalow colony.

Ahhh, gotcha. I was defining staying put in our current location as 'staycation', going away from here as 'vacation.' This seems to be confusing people. OK, changing the title to avoid more confusion!

Walnut mountain is an easy hike for little kids. My kids liked Bear Mountains, but it IS a little tame. I'll try to think of more.
