Depends whom you ask. Both are oot to a Brooklynite. MANHATTAN is oot to a Brooklynite even though they call it “the city”. Why does it matter to you?

No. I don't think living anywhere in NY or NJ is considered OOT

Bayswater and maybe inwood would be considered more out of townish but that area on a whole is considered in town

I grew up on the UWS. When I was growing up I felt like I lived OOT "jewishly" while in the hub of things secularly but that could also have been due to where I davened...

Beg to differ, I think that Rochester NY, Buffalo NY, Albany NY, Cherry Hill NJ, Elizabeth NJ, Linden NJ, East Brunswick NJ, West Orange NJ, and other places in NY/NJ are OOT. But I honestly wouldn't want to live in a world where Far Rockaway, Cedarhurst, Lawrence, or Woodmere would be considered OOT, if you get my drift.
I guess though that some people consider in-town to be literally Brooklyn, Lakewood, and Monsey, and some only Brooklyn. And I'm sure some only Flatbush, Boro Park, Williamsburg, and Crown Heights.

Disagree. Grew up in NJ . 1/2 hr from the city, friends in many places in NY / NJ. Very different than living in a smaller neighborhood in the midwest for example

OOT isn't a location it's a state of mind.
(5 towns is definitely in town).

I echo what the other posters wrote. However, in some ways five towns is more “out of towny” than Lakewood. In a positive way in my opinion. I think with certain things the pressure is higher in Lakewood. Some parts of five towns remind me more of Jackson. Not out of town but not Lakewood/Brooklyn.

Not at all in my opinion. Unless you think Brooklyn is the only place in the universe.
I can't imagine how Monsey can be "in town" and the 5T not. You can spit over the city line.

It's OOT in terms of a live-and-let-live, go shopping in a snood, wear tights or go bare legged and you are still a fellow yid worthy of love and friendship way.

Brooklyn and Manhattan feel different to me.
What is 'in-town' feel?

I find this question almost comical. I am from Seattle. As far as I’m concerned, the whole tristate area in "in town"
