Mesivta of North Jersey does not have strong academics. Heichal has a strong English, but is a bit more modern.

Does "near" allow for dorming during the week? That's what a lot of the Passaic mesivta boys do. Without dorming, there's Ohavei in Riverdale and Heichal. With, there are a lot of boys at Yesodei in Queens (Landers' mesivta.)

The closest 3 that fit your general description are Ohavei in Riverdale, Heichal in Teaneck, and Shaarei Torah in Monsey (not to be confused with Shaar HaTorah in Queens).

What about Tabc? I seem to recall another thread where that name came up but I know nothing about the school.
When do these schools have open houses ? When are we supposed to apply- I mean how far in advance?

They definitely offer both Kodesh and secular studies, but it's not located in Monsey. It's in New Windsor, about 45 minutes up the Hudson north of Monsey, so definitely not commutable from Passaic.

TABC is an MO yeshiva high school. I don't have boys so I don't know the details, but the school is popular in my community. College prep, lot of activities.

TABC and MTA both offer strong kodesh and chol and are near Passaic.

RTMA in Elizabeth is strong in both Limudei Kodesh and Limudei Chol. Many boys come from Passaic.
TABC is all boys.

Shaar Hatorah is not a commuting school. You need to dorm. Boys come home every shabbos when they are in HS. it's not known to be very warm.
