Basically Troy (from dr. phil) takes a group of people who had hateful online conversations and brought them together to discuss the issues and found that they where very civil and respectful to each other in person - while still disagreeing nad agreed that socail media thrives on hate.

I see this on immother a lot (people will say thing in a way they never would in real life)

What do you think?

Writing and direct conversation are different. When I'm talking to someone, I can see from her expressions and body language if she understands what I'm saying, and I don't have to be as direct as I am in writing. We can both see from each other's body language whether we are, or are not, hostile, joking, insulted, amused, touched, flattered, etc. All those nuances are lost in an online post. As long as everyone understands the ground rules, there's no harm done.

That doesn't explain rude, nasty posts or personal attacks that we sometimes see on imamother .Always as Amother of course Smile.
Again we where talking about aggressive hateful speech (cursing, putting down, name calling, personal attacks).

You're right. The reason I go amother all the time now is a poster who was nasty and personal when she disagreed with me. (And not even about the usual hot button issues.) But for the most part, the discourse here is respectful.

I don't see a lot of what I'd call "hate" on imamother. I do see a lot of the following:

Poster1: " I45 is a speed trap especially on Thursdays".
Poster2: "Excuse me??? I went 20 mph over the speed limit on I45 and didn't get a ticket. Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. So there! I guess you don't know everything."

Rude, annoying, and immature, but to call it "hate" would be an exaggeration.
