Presto

Ramom I wonder why you reccommend Israheat over the Presto? Any special features?

Also, the Israheat is much more expensive on Amazon than the Presto. Is it cheaper in the local stores?

There are leniencies in use on shabbos when there is no dial/setting options.
But many of the heimish made versions are super dangerous. We had a bad (dangerous) experience.
Israheat is made properly. It is pretty expensive.
We have a German made Klass, excellent. But then we needed a second one for pesach and Klass was no longer available. We did a lot of research and bought an Israheat many years ago. BH.

We use a griddle from Walmart and cover up the dial (and have it on a timer so it’s only on a few hours at a time, not overnight).

Thanks!
Can you please explain how it is safer? I am wondering what to look out for.

We use techyid, it was designed by a Frum electrical engineer specifically for safe use over a long period of time.

The reviews on Amazon say that it doesn't get hot enough. Everything has to be boiling before being placed on it in order for the food to be warm.

I can see it being useful for Shabbos but not so much for YT when I rely on the hotplate for warming up frozen food.

So happens to be that I like that it doesn’t get as hot because it heats my food without burning the bottom (the way my old one used to). But it does take a long time to defrost, which is not so ideal by night meals when you can’t start that early..

Look for UL certification.

Thanks Ramom
There is no UL Certification on the Israheat that I see on Amazon.

Is there a specific model you are talking about?
I appreciate your info. Sorry for keeping you busy.

I can try to open my pesach box to look at the packaging.
Our research for a hot plate was done many years ago. It could be that today more brands are made safely. Just please be aware of what to look out for. And use a timer.

Thanks so much ramom.
And tichellady thanks for the link. It is UL certified but it does not heat up the food. It only keeps it warm.

I guess my bottom line question is; Is there a UL certified hotplate that can also cook/warm up the food?

Any suggestions appreciated.

OP I hope you are ok that I am asking here.

It’s what we use for Shabbat. I put cold food on it and it works. It does heat the food

I guess my best option is to buy the Presto again (they have a newer huge one which I don't see online) and use it with a timer for safety.

I would never heat frozen food on a hot plate so not sure.
