ISO a Healthy High Smoke Point Oil for frying, what do you buy and where do you buy it?
https://www.rd.com/health/well.....-oil/
Readers Digest says Avocado Oil is good for frying:
"Many cooks place a pan on the stovetop and then automatically reach for olive oil or extra virgin olive oil. Stop right there! Neither of these oils can stand up to high heat. When it comes to browning, you need a high smoke point, so enter avocado oil. “It’s neutral in flavor, has a smoke point over 500 degrees F, and is high in healthy monounsaturated fats,” explains Wiegand. For another great option, Matthieu Kohlmeyer founder and CEO of the artisanal oil company La Tourangelle, recommends grapeseed oil, with a slightly lower smoke point of 410 degree F. “It’s a home chef’s best friend for high-heat frying because it leaves a crisp texture without added heaviness and won’t turn to smoke and set off the kitchen fire alarm,” he says. Using the wrong oil is one of the cooking mistakes that can make your food toxic.":

If you're not allergic, peanut oil has a very high smoke point. Sesame oil has the same smoke point as peanut, but it's super expensive. Both are very healthy.

In addition to an Avocado Oil that I bought at Costco, thats much more expensive per ounce, I just bought this at Costco because it was 23.99 for 5 Liters.
Is this unhealthy to use for frying?
If I use Cold Pressed Olive Oil for salads, and for the rare times I fry, I use Avocado Oil because of the high smoke point, what else can I use this oil for? Baking?

I use sunflower oil lately instead of avocado oil. It’s offically non GMO so hopefully it’s almost as good and it has high smokIng levels.
Mevater - olive oil isn’t the best idea for frying but great I’m salads.

Forget the class, Im concerned with the health aspect, Im questioning why they are recommending it for sauteeing and grilling, both involving extremely high smoke points.

From my research, most olive oils aren’t real olives. Google mafia control over olive oil.
That’s why I feel comfortable using sunflower and avocado oil for everything lately.
Sunflower oil in my local grocery is under $6 for a liter and Avacado oil which is probably the healthiest cooking and baking oil on the market these days is $10 at Costco for 1 liter.

Yes, that is a very nice oil and that was a great price!
I would use it for baking, and really anything but frying or sauteing where you will be using high temps, even for salads, etc. where it has a very mild taste but isn't cold pressed if that bothers you.

I tried avocado oil once. Not only was it not neutral, it was vile. As in I threw out the food I made with it AND the oil, and opened all the windows.
Are there different kinds of avocado oil?

I'm not going to debate the health benefits, although I disagree. But it has a relatively low smoke point of 350.

I gave up on ever really knowing what is the "best" but I settled on using sunflower oil for frying. It's supposedly "better" and it's relatively cheap at Trader Joe's. I don't do tons of frying so it would get expensive if I were more of a fryer. I sautee onions a lot and make things like omelettes, not that much else. I'll fry chicken cutlets once in a long while.

Every olive oil I've tried here has had a weird, almost rancid, "off" flavor.
I also heard that the majority of oil here is either made by Palestinians (they own most of the groves) or by Turkey (which is not a big fan of Israel in the best of times.) And as posters above mentioned, that is if it even contains much real olive oil at all, and not just a bunch of fillers.
I gave up on olive oil, and now stick to sunflower, coconut, and peanut oils - depending on the use. Sunflower is neutral enough for making mayo and salad dressings. Coconut is perfect for Thai and Indian food, and peanut is great for Chinese and Japanese food.
