My eight month old baby has posterior tongue tie. Her pediatrician said not to do anything about it but I’m concerned that it might lead to issues with speech, feeding, tooth decay, etc. I would like to take her to see someone for a second opinion. What kind of specialist deals with tongue tie and would know whether it’s bad enough to snip?

Some Pediatricians do it. some Pediatric dentists.

Your local lactation specialists would know the ones in your neck of the woods who do it.

(interesting to note - they do a conference around this! http://www.icapprofessionals.com/)

Pediatric dentist or ENT is the best. You want someone who is experienced specifically with posterior tongue tie. These things can grow back.

Btw, they can also tell you whether or not the tie will affect speech or teeth. I recently discovered that I am tongue-tied, and I didn't have these issues. On the other hand, some people have migraines for years before they discover that tongue-tie is causing it.

I think you should get the opinion of a paediatric dentist who does the tongue-tie op via laser. Also, they can check for a lip tie which commonly occurs with Posterior Tongue Ties. If a Lip Tie is also discovered, I highly recommend getting that lasered too. Untreated lip tie can lead to severe orthodontal issues.
