My old computer used to do that too...I just bought a new one...could be electric connection problem or the battery of your pc that became too old...

If it’s a virus, it will get worse and worse the more you use a computer. Get a local person to clean it out for you before it won’t work completely.

go to Start>Control Panel> Power options
set "Never" in "Turn off monitor", "turn off hard disks", 'System standby', 'system hibernates' options

I am using a lenovo laptop and it happens, too. My tech guy suggested maybe its getting too hot.
I'm not sure.
I did a defrag, etc and it helped abit. But its still happening, every time the computer has to think a bit harder.
Could be low memory?

ugg...still happening...
did what you suggested Roza, but didn't help.
It only happens when the internet is open, I don't think it is a virus, b/c we have virus protection....
it is so frustratng...if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know...thanks!

from what you are saying, it could be a hardware problem.
do the fans work? it could be power supply failure too. Can you have someone check those out? did your computer come with some kind of hardware diagnostics cd? run it, it will check your hardware components.
you can ask your question on manufacturer's website, there are forums on it. that provide support. most manufactures give online support long after you buy your pc.
