When did you start teaching?

Did everyone start teaching soon after graduating?
Or do I have a chance at age 35 to find a teaching job? I assume I'll need 'experience' to find a job? should I apply for subbing jobs and regret it after the first day? Smile

I did teach 4th grade for 2 years under a b****!! She was so rude! Downright degrading! and I hated her so much that I left the job but always wished to go back since I loved the teaching experience.

I wouldn't go back to teaching a young elementary class due to the low salary but why should anyone hire me? and truthfully, I was out of it for so many years that I don't feel confident walking into a class and start teaching.

I'd love to observe experienced teachers for a week or two to get the feel of it and see if this is something that I wish to do or not.. but why would anyone welcome an observer?

in short, I guess this was more a vent than a post for practical advice...

btw subbing makes more than teaching, so its worthwhile bc its more lucrative + more flexible. Also you do have teaching experience, so why would u consider urself a newbie?

Subbing is a great way to feel diff environments, in diff settings to see which school is the most conducive for you. Also for the school staff to get familiar with you, so you have your connections & ease your way into the system.

When I applied.
I was taken without experience.
We never have two teachers except in gan, an ozeret for diapers etc?

I agree that subbing pays well and is a good way to start again. Emphasize your experience and good qualities.

It was many years ago. Find out pricing in your neighborhood today. I remember at that time I heard some schools in bp paying $80 per day for preschool. Dont know today's pay amount.

I didn't start teaching straight after graduating because I was mid-pregnancy and no one would give me a job. Starting a year and a half later I taught for two years and then took a five year break because I made aliya. I just started again last year at the age of 32, bH had no problem getting a job, and am loving being back in education. At various times I subbed, tutored or taught Sunday school and I put all that in my CV.
