I noticed the that even though it was 80 degrees on yomtov everyone was wearing black tights/ winter colors.
So what’s the official rule on warm days after succos?
Not looking to hear about wearing whatever you want etc. - thank you

I don’t think there’s an official rule. I think many people were confused by the constantly changing weather. IMO, white shell is definitely fine if it’s warm

For YT people like to wear the new clothes they bought for the upcoming season. During the weekday, some people are doing the same, I.e. wearing fall/winter colors and others are wearing summery stuff. You definitely won't stick out in a white shell.

You cannot wear white after yomtov as the seasons are changing. You should only wear dark wintery colors.

In the in between weathers you see people dressed in furs, wool & velvet & u see people in shorts. No rules. Nobody is sticking out of crowd, because everyone looks funny
with what she's wearing compared to her next door neighbor

But what are the consequences of wearing too-warm clothes?
- Physical discomfort, sweaty armpits, melting makeup
What are the consequences of wearing light-colored clothes after Labor Day?
- Possible clucking from the few irrelevant ninnies who still care about such antiquated notions.
Choice seems pretty clear to me.

The first time I ever heard of this dress rule was here on imamother. Never heard it anywhere else, also had no idea what labor day is, so I decided to google it. Turns out it is a completely "American" thing, so to say, מנהג ארצות הברית, which is why I never came across it.
According to some, it was an invention by 19th century snobs to distinguish themselves from the newly rich...

Are you people for real? Even that fashion rule about no white after Labor Day applied only to shoes and hats, and that rule went the way of the 8-track tape at least 30 years ago. A shell? As in a ladies’ plain, close-fitting, round-necked thin knit garment for the upper body, originally designed to be worn under a suit but adopted more recently as a kind of undergarment making it possible to wear sleeveless, décolleté or otherwise revealing garments without violating conservative codes of modesty? That kind of shell? Why on earth would anyone think it inappropriate or even unfashionable to wear a white one in the fall, winter or any other time of year? White is a classic neutral that goes with anything, anywhere, any time. What planet have I landed on that you think otherwise? Or is OP fully cognizant of the facts and posting just to see who takes the bait?

Personally I wear whatever colour shell goes with my outfit regardless of the season.

I wear white tshirts under sweaters all year round. The colour of your dress or outfit is more important. But if its a warm day, a light coloured dress and sandals is fine. If its cold, darker colours are probaby better.
