No. Nose is worse. If you are digging around in your ear and pull out earwax that is about as bad, but if you stick your fingers in your ear to drown out a painful noise I find that acceptable (disclaimer: I am not a member of high society).

Why not just cover your ears or push the flap in to close out the noise?

It's like holding your nose to avoid an unpleasant smell.

I find it gross when I see someone digging on their and then flicking off the contents! Ugh!

If I put my finger in my ear, say to scratch an itch, I assure you my finger comes out quite clean. I am obsessive with cleaning my ears twice a day. But if someone is picking out wax - ewww - really just about as gross as nose picking. Yuck.
