I couldnt resist.

When in a situation where it's necessary to discuss flatulence, is it vulgar to use the word fart? (in other words...do you say that word? assuming youre not a vulgar person...)

I don't think it's vulgar, but more like not high level or polite. For example do you say toilet/pee or use the restroom in public? I would never say to someone I have to pee, but rather I have to use the restroom. Yet, I don't know if the first phrase is particularly vulgar, so much as not higher level language.

Shocked and kind of disturbed that so many women think it's ok.

It's obviously very controversial . I equate the word fart with when someone says they are "pissed". Many people don't see a problem with that type of language. I do. I was actually shocked when my DS's 75 yr old Rosh yeshiva asked him " Yanky, why are you pissed off?" You expect classier language from frum people.

It’s vulgar but not obscene. IOW not for use in polite company but it’s not considered a cuss word.

Maybe it's because I grew up in a house with boys or maybe because I work with little ones but fart is a normal word. someone saying it doesn't make me think twice I was surprised when people here called it vulgar. Now if I hear someone calling someone else a fart face that would be when it's not ok.

This. It's kind of in the same category as the word poop.

Tell that to my granddaughter.
I accidentally passed gas so she said "Oh fart" and gave me a mean look.
She is not yet 2. I told my daughter "you better watch what you say in front of your child.

It’s a word that I definitely discourage my children - both boys, no reason why they should get a pass - from using, and I never use myself.

In the same category as “that sucks”, “cr@p” (🤐wow, the imamother censor didn’t like that one), “pissed off”, “barf”, etc.

I might expose my children to media that uses those terms rarely (unlike actual swear words), but I make it clear to them that it’s unacceptable for them to repeat.

I taught my 2 year old the word fart. She needed a word to describe flatulence.

And my grandparents used the phrase altercucker.

We grew up saying "gas"... we didn't say "I passed gas" we said "I made a gas" or "when you make gas say excuse me"

I find the word flatulence much grosser than the word fart. The former makes me shudder.

Did you burp?

At some point, hopefully at a very young age we learn that our private parts do private things, and we just don’t talk about it. At least that’s my parenting take.

I find fart jokes crass for this reason.

Fart is in the same category as turd. I would use the word poop when talking to my very young child. I would ask that same child if they have gas.

Poop is not a word to use in adult conversation. There is hardly ever a reason to discuss bodily functions between adults.

Poop and fart are on the same level - except that poop is a childish word and fart isn’t.

A fart is gas that comes out of ones tush.

There you go amother Jade. You differentiated it yourself perfectly. "(P)oop is a childish word and fart isn't."
