Tropes, are overused plot devices. Thy can be ideas, phrases or images that are often used to create a powerful image. We all have tropes about all sorts of things.

Tropes are also repetitive comments about various things. There are tropes about women in society, various kinds of politics, you name it, there are tropes for it. My Israeli friend might characterize these things as ‘little speeches.’

I’m wondering what your tropes are with regard to diet and well being? For example: ( these are not mine- mine have changed drastically over the last 18 months and I’m still trying to formulate what mine actually are now- in a health perspective, I see tropes as the things we tell ourselves that keep us from what we want to achieve. Here are the ones from my past:

Everything in moderation( but of course I was never moderate)
A plate for a meal should have grain, protein and vegetables
I could never be a vegetarian/vegan
I could live without sugar but not grains
I could never exercise because....
I’m a crazy compulsive eater.
I’m hopeless.
I’m just going to drop dead some day and my family will suffer, but I won’t know the difference.
I’ve tried everything.( obviously not since I had never tried what I do now)
I look like an egg on legs( that one is true still)

It’s not unlike ‘ what petty hill will you die on?’ But about our health.

I don't know why but this one sticks with me and works to curb my immediate gratification desires:

Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels
