If it was valued at more than $75, then she will be charged vat on the whole package. There is a higher threshold ( forgot what) where she will also get taxed import duties

I believe that there is a certain exemption for items that are for personal use, or small gifts to family members.
Do an internet search, but be sure you spell it "CUSTOMS", with a U.

Its not clear to me from what I have read. Does anyone has experience with this? If your relative from overseas sends you a gift do you have to pay?

If it is worth more than $75, they have to pay vat of 17%. If it is worth more than $500, they will have to pay a lot more than that.

There shouldn't be VAT/customs charged on kids clothes.
