I have no clue how to make a poll, but I would like to know if your 1-4th grader loves, hates or likes school?
My first grade DD says she hates school

My first grader complains about all the rules. She also needs to sit by her desk for a long time. No toys. Going from Pre1A to first is very hard on most kids.
But in general she loves school. She loves that she is learning to read and math. She loves that she will get a chumush this year. She loves that she is part of 'the big girls". She even loves the speeches that girls in the older grade hate.

My 3rd grader loves school. I do with her tons of acedemic work over the summer and extra school work on weekends and extra reading and writing on school nights so she is does not find school too hard for her. She is not good socially and she still loves school except that sometimes she complains about her classmates. I think the fact that she understands what the teacher is teaching makes her like school.

my 3rd grader likes school but still complains that she's jealous of her younger sister who gets to be home more. She wishes she could be in both places at the same time she also complains about being bored sometimes...

My 3rd grade daughter - mixed feelings - likes some things, hates other things, good days & bad days. Can you talk to each of them to get to know specifically what is the most troubling about school and try to see if can do anything to help things be better for them?

My 3rd grade DS says he hates school, that he “knows everything already” and “we should change the stupid law”.
He is a very bright kid, BH can mostly keep himself and his behavior under control at school, gets good grades, but has a very negative attitude at home re: schoolwork and whatever he says happened at school.

My second grader had a hard time with a strict first grade teacher, and I know the teacher well (I teach in the same department) so I knew the teacher was good. We worked out a behavior plan with teacher, and I focused on not feeding into her kvetching (teacher had that suggestion). It helped my daughter tremendously. Within a month of implementation, I didn't hear any more complaining.
This year she's fine in second grade, bli ayin hara!
My fourth grader is fine bli ayin hara!!!!
I think that the are many factors for why a kid can be unhappy, and parents have to try to problem solve, while empowering their kids and not babying them.
Some kids are natural kvetches.
Some kids struggle academically.
Some kids struggle socially.
Some kids are a bad shidduch with a specific teacher.
And I'm sure there are many more reasons....
Parents with miserable children should be trouble shooting. Incentive program? Tutoring? Social skills workshops? Speaking respectfully to the teacher and asking for advice?

I have 3 elementary school kids. Ds is in 1st and seems to be happy.
Dd in 3rd complains about the homework, but does it all in a couple minutes. She has friends, so I feel that makes all the difference.
Dd in 4th like to learn and has been blessed with really good teachers that I know from before. She has grown socially, so she seems happier.
