My DH needs to go take the SAT or ACT. He's several years out of school at this point. He probably won't have that much time to study. What are the pros and cons of the SAT and ACT? Which one would you recommend he take?

Try one of each for free on their websites . See which he prefers and gets a better score on.

The SAT is more universally recognized and accepted, so if he's only taking one, I'd advise going that route.

This is no longer true.
Your son should take one practice test of each format and decide which he is most comfortable with. For my two oldest kids, it was the ACTs.

DH wasn't a typo. My husband needs to take one of the tests, since he never took it in high school and now wants to go to college.

Okay.

Okay.

Sorry. I didn't read that carefully.
My DH went back to school after we got married too.
Best of luck to both of you.
