I use a porcelain tray/dish for the leichter to stand on. I usually cover it in foil, as the candles drip and then it is hard to get the wax off, but then the whole purpose of having a nice tray is out as it is covered. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a clear cover or any other idea how I can cover the tray while at the same time it be seen?

Can you pour boiling water over the dish on motzei shabbos to melt off the wax?
We use a mirror tray and if the wax drips, this is what we do (with the leftover boiling water from the shabbos urn).
Also if you make sure that the wicks are in an upright position before you light the candles, you'll see that the candles will drip less.

Use an old plastic card like a credit card--but not a real credit card!--to scrape off the wax. It's not a big deal unless your tray has an ornate relief design that makes it difficult to scrape. Then use a cloth to buff off any remaining residue.

Boiling water will melt off the wax, but be sure to pour it off into a disposable pan or empty coffee can, because you do NOT want that wax-laden water going down the drain unless you're either made of money or a plumber. Major piping grief awaits those foolish enough to send melted wax down the drain, where it will cool, solidify, and necessitate the plumbing equivalent of bypass surgery.

Or get a plain dumb metal tray for your leichter and use your beautiful porcelain tray as a challah tray or for serving cake or something.
