I used to use K9 but then got a new computer that I used with a different filter. I find it useless so I've downloaded K9 again.

I've been checking some sites that shouldn't be allowed to make sure they're blocked and they're totally not blocked, and oddly enough imamother did get blocked.

My setting is on High, why am I still able to google abortion and s-x positions and gain access?

No idea, but you could change settings to "custom" and then manually choose the categories you want to block, and see if that solves the problem.

Me and a few friends of mine had same issue so someone looked into it...
K9 apparently hasn’t been actively updating their filter information on their end. My husband also heard guys say that it is no longer a reliable filter across the board

I use K9 as a whitelist filter, meaning I block EVERY category of sites, including (especially) unrated sites, and including filtering secure websites. Then I manually add any websites that my kids will need or want to access. For the first few days it is very annoying, because most websites load content from other websites, so both need to be unblocked. You can check the logs to see which sites were blocked.

There are other better options for free category blocking, including OpenDNS, Qustodio, etc.

I had done that as well for a while - and the K9 didn’t work every time regardless!

I had officially blocked everything besides specific websites I entered in to allow. And somehow once in a while it allowed other sites and searches!!!

Thanks everyone.

Anyone have a free filter that's reliable?

Or a reasonably priced filter that is user friendly and adaptable?
