Any advice on digital cameras under $50. It has to work and take decent pictures.

These days most of the cameras in that price range leave a bit to be desired. If that's your budget, I would try looking on Ebay for a Canon point-and-shoot from a reputable seller, possibly a refurbished one with a warranty.

It’s for kids so if the image isn’t great it’s ok.
I checked out eBay and found boxed new cameras that I owned 13 years ago. It’s hard to even find sd cards that will still work with them.
I wasn’t sure if it’s better to buy new old Nikon coolpix on eBay or cheap Polaroid digital cameras from target

The cameras on most smart phones are way way better than most point and shoot... Maybe consider getting an inexpensive smart phone without the phone bit it would be just a camera...

Canon has seasonal sales on refurbished cameras with a one year warranty. I think kollelbudget.com usually posts about them. The price range I. The past was 40-80 for basic point and shoot. I have gotten a few from them and very happy.

B&h had the same things I saw on amazon and target with the same lousy reviews.
The canon idea sounds interesting but nothing there yet.
