A Beit Shemesh family of 9 made the news this week after a fire destroyed their apartment. The blaze reportedly started just after 5am last Thursday, and spread quickly. The family, which includes 7 children, was initially trapped inside their home. Emergency responders managed to remove the family as well as multiple others from the building who had suffered from smoke inhalation.
Two children, a 9 and 7 year old, are currently in the intensive care unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem. One is in moderate condition, the other ‘serious.’ The rest of the family has been released from the hospital.
The family is reportedly homeless, with no remaining belongings. Parents Yiscah and Shalom Yosef both bring home modest paychecks, and are far from capable of replacing their belongings.
An urgent fund has been started to help them purchase essentials such as an apartment to rent, appliances, clothing, linens and groceries. Though a handful of strangers from across the world have contributed, they are far from their goal.
Those interested in helping the Yosef family to replace their belongings can do so here.
