So what if they sing it? Will they stop being Jewish? There's nothing Christian about this song. It's a lovely song and I wouldn't care at all if my kids would sing it. If they sing hail Mary I'd be worried though

Some of the tunes of niggunim have a German army original. Which is way worse don't you think? Oh well but I guess jingle bells is worse for a lot of people

Here is the info about the origins of the song. NOTHING at all to do with christm@s. And it does not start with "merry chritm@s" at all. It was for thanksgiving at first.

In my son’s piano book, the tune is for a song called “crunchy flakes” so maybe learn those lyrics instead!

Squishy, a little further Googling would have led to the information that Mr. Michael Buble, the songwriter you though was referred to in the original lyrics of Jingle Bells, was born in 1975. Jingle Bells was composed in the 1850s.

I know the song as starting with Merry x-mas Ladies. This is what comes to my mind, so I googled "Merry x-mas Ladies" knowing those words are part of the song.
Using your infallible Wikipedia, the song is listed as a x-mas song with many versions. Since it is now a x-mas song, no matter the origin, it isn't appropriate for Jewish children to sing. It is sort of like Easter is a now Christian holiday even though it started as passover.
If my kids came home from school, singing Jingle Bells because their friends taught them the words, I would be upset. DC came home in the 4th grade singing a McDonald's jingle because her friend taught her. This is not for jewish kids.

Squishy, as the rest of my post clearly stated, it is obvious that Jingle Bells has been co-opted by celebrators of x-mas. [The question is whether we allow that co=opting to dictate our choices of toothbrushes, sweaters, and more.] Don't twist what I said in order to deflect from the fact that you said in your post that the original lyrics included the name of someone (Mr. Michael Buble), who was born in 1975.

I can’t get over the snowflake thing. So if we can’t associate snowflakes with Chanuka (obviously the Christians beat us to it...) then what do we associate with the winter season? Hot pink plastic flamingos since so many frum people go to Florida then?????

Ravenclaw, I think the co-opting of things like snowflakes is ridiculous. But yes, I do know people who refuse to wear a sweater with a snowflake pattern! That includes my very LWMO sixteen-year-old son, so it's not strictly a yeshivish or chassidish phenomenon. You usually do see these sweaters only in "holiday" catalogues, so I sort of see how this association happens.
But if toothbrushes are used all year round, I'd think that Jingle Bells is *less* likely to be associated with x-mas. So I'm all in favor of the Jingle Bells toothbrush!
