We would very much like a gas stove top, but are nervous that with the handles on the front and within the kids reach, it is plain not safe. We are confident in our children's ability to open any child lock, lol!
What do people do?

How is gas any worse than electric? In some way electric scares me more because it's hot without being obvious. Either way you have to teach your kids that certain things are dangerous and not to be touched.

If you have gas then you MUST install a carbon monoxide detector. Gas is slightly more dangerous then electric because knobs can be turned in and gas can pour out and if the flame doesn’t kick on you could G-D forbid have a problem with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Is this a range or an independent stove top? If possible, get the knobs on the side. Otherwise, take them off and put in a high cabinet. Take one down to use as needed.

You can buy covers for the knobs on amazon. I have a safety first one.

You can get an induction cooktop. It is precise to cook with and is safer than gas.
