Hi all! How much is average to tip a therapist? My child has 3 therapists plus all my other childrens rebbes and teachers and drivers and bus moniters my tips are reaching $500 which u literally cant afford. Im trying to see where I can cut!
I was planning to give therapists $50 I just feel akward giving less but would love to know what the going rate is to make me feel better about giving less

Any therapists on here?! Maybe you can be of first hand help here!

$50 per therapist is very generous! I am giving them a cookbook which is cheaper than that. One year I gave a nice diffuser which was $20.

I consider myself a generous tipper. There is NO reason to give a therapist $50. $18 is fine. $25 is very nice. I don’t understand where people are coming up with these high numbers from???

You don't tip an intellectual profession. It's offensive!

I'm a therapist, not in NY/NJ. Outside those areas, tipping/ gifts is far less common or expected. I rarely get anything, and the most I get is $25. $50 would totally blow me away.

No, not when it is about throwing money at people. Use your words. You can even send or give a card. But you don't "tip" (!) a shrink or a therapist or intellectual profession. OFFENSIVE.

Interesting... I never knew getting a gift could be a pffense?!

what about my child’s OT or PT? Is $30 offensive? Or is a gift card better? I don’t think she needs my chocolate platter?

Tip a therapist? This I've never heard of. Do you mean gift for Chanukah, perhaps?

For a child's SEIT, OT, PT, speech therapist..., a Chanukah gift is nice. (I thought that this was what the thread was referring to.)
Not so for an actual therapist.

So I guess teachers arent "intellectual professionals"??
I am against tipping anyone in any professional capacity as it can give a bias. Many professional organizations are against tips or gifts for that reason. Including many public school districts. We see the bias here on imamother- moms post "if I don't tip the rebbe then my kid won't get treated right..."

Op probably meant a speech therapist or ot... not a shrink.

I gave my daughters speech therapist a nice small chocolate platter for $12 with a thank you note.

I don’t call it a tip, I call it a Chanukah gift.

You made one poster very happy. She found the word “tip” extremely offensive.

I cannot afford anything near a 50$ tip. I give the rebbes and morah's something small (this year a nice floral ceramic plate with tiny homemade matching flower cakes made by me and my kids) and a card saying thank you. Costs around 10 dollars in total. That's it.

I'm an OT. I very rarely get a tip, and $50 would blow me away. I think Inwould feel awkward accepting such a large amount of money. A card wishing Happy Chanukah by the child is great. A small token such a chocolate, fuzzy new gloves or a cool new gadget for my clinic is usually what I see and that is enough.

In school most therapists are trained not to receive gifts. Some organizations have policies where they're not allowed to accept anything over $5. I'd give a nice card.
