PSA: Correct pronunciation of "mozzarella"

I am so fed up of hearing friends, acquaintances, and food bloggers mispronouncing the word "mozzarella". The double "z" of "mozzarella" is pronounced like the z's of "pizza". It does not make the standard "z" sound.
I don't want to embarrass them by correcting them, so maybe this is a good forum to point out this common mistake.

I only know it as pronounced with a "z". But here in Belgium, they call pizza as well like this.

Now can you do "Mozart"? We have a street with that name in Chicago's Jewish community, and I've actually heard people argue that it should be pronounced "Mozzart" rather than "Mohtzart."

Right! I didn't know how to put it in writing. They put an emphasis on the third syllable
Also...They taught me how to cook authentic Italian food.

But it's schnozzola, rhymes with Mazola, when you refer to Jimmy Durante's nose.

actually PENyo, not PEENyo. The letter E is properly pronounced eh in Spanish. the letter I is pronounced EE. East LA dialect may differ.

I've only heard variation in the vowel - moo vs. mah. Never heard anyone not pronounce the z's as tz.

Copycatter. (Except you were first.) Was going to post just that.

I've made some phone orders in the past and when I told the person taking the order, she was like, "torteeeeeeeeya? What's that?" Duh.

And then, in an absurdly hilarious story, my daughter came home from school with her class word for "J"... You guess it: Jah-lapeno. I called up the teacher over that one and tried to laugh with her... not at her... But ummm... Seriously?

(In her defense, she said she'd just learned the correct pronunciation but the girls chose that word and she simply didn't correct them...)

While we're on the subject, "Mars Capone" is not a thing. Although it would be a great nom de plume. Same with "chi-pol-te".

And mootzarell' is a colloquialism and not standard Italian pronunciation.

In Spanish the same because it's spelled with a "u" not an "o" and it's phonetic.

Actually jalapeno is pronounced "ch", like chaim. The n is an enye. My computer doesn't have spanish on it, but it's a different letter and that's why it's a pronounced like that. It's an "n" with a thingy on top. I don't know grammar especially the names.
