I have an 8 year old who is "big" for her age, she is tall and built. She is learning to sew and her sewing teacher also said she sews clothing for people. I think it's k'dai to pay to have one dress sewn for her but don't want it to be very complicated because the longer it takes to do the more it will cost and the less likely my dd will be able to do it herself eventually. Can anyone who sews or good at "dressing" bigger kids size chime in. The teacher said she already has a pattern very similar to

do you think this will be flattering?

No, that style is for petite or younger kids. I would do simple straight or a line style.
Actually I sew, and the easiest dress to make -that your daughter can do on her own - is a pillowcase dress- ask about it. I actually saw such a style dress in the jewish stores today for lots of $$$

I agree with the other posters. I don't think that would be the best choice of dress. I love straight dresses. I find that they accentuate height and leanness for a tall, built child.

can a "pillowcase" dress be made in like size 14-16 (yes thats what she often wears! )?
will it look normal a few inches below the knee - I like her dresses/skirts to fully cover her knees with room to spare. she grows quickly!
wondering if I should just give up on a dress and stick with two pieces, someone said they thought dresses would be more flattering pm her but but who knows.
my concern with straight is that they are harder to move in
she actually has the dress I linked to and I don't like how it fits her but wasn't sure if it was just too big on her or what. I see that its not my imagination and making it to order for her won't help, the styles just not right for her.
gande- do you have anyplace online that you buy patterns for cheap?
