Out of curiosity, how big is your crockpot and how much meat are you putting in? I've noticed that my 2lb chuck roast can get dry, and I'm wondering if a larger roast would do better. I make a similar dish to this using chicken breasts during the week that my DH loves, but I know making it like you do with beef would be a really special treat, but I also don't want to goof it up TMI

When I make beef stew, I dump in a whole bottle of really dark beer. The alcohol cooks down, and makes a very rich flavor.

We rarely have cholent. We have grilled chicken or roasted chicken thighs, brisket over rice or London broil ( sometimes we have dairy or pareve but I assume you want a meat meal) with roasted vegetables and salad. We do have hot soup in the crockpot in the winter

For yapchik I saute pieces of meat along with onions & spices. Make a potato kugel recipe. Mix the sauteed cubed meat into the potato kugel recipe & place in crock pot raw. Shabbos afternoon it's yummy. Tastes like an overnight kugel with meat.

In cholent you can do diff variations like adding kishka, jachnun, marrow bones, navel pastrami, franks, eggs, veg...

6.5 liter crockpot and 2-3 kilo of meat.
I live in Israel, you’ll have to do the conversions Smile

What number meat do you use in Israel? Do you use store bought BBQ sauce? Which kind?

#3 meat. Any store bought BBQ sauce that you like. We prefer the american brands which we can get easily where we live, but whatever you like.

Cornbeef and cabbage, we call this Irish chulent.
I use sour kraut, but you can use cabbage if you like the taste better.

Do you put the uncooked beef and cooked sauerkraut together in the slow cooker? Interesting idea!

Not sure I understand the question. You can make almost anything.

- Baked salmon with salad and rice
- Roast chicken with sauteed green beans and baked potato
- Lentil patties with broccoli salad and spiced rice noodles

Take any protein source, add some vegetable, add a starch --> ta dah!
