My husband is a doctor. Please don't spend money on this; it's simply not necessary. Write him a sincere card and he will treasure it. People have lost the art of the written note unfortunately. The ones my husband has received bring us such joy.
Little thoughtful gifts my husband has received that he has enjoyed, however:
Tomatoes and cucumbers from someone's garden
Unique coffee beans from someone who's in that industry
A hand knit blanket when we had a baby

A fruit bowl for Tu bshvat if he is Jewish

This is a great idea.
In many hospitals doctors are not allowed to accept gifts and you might be putting him in an uncomfortable position if you give a gift and he can't accet.
