I saw a bulge in my 8 yr old sons iguinal canal bec he told me hes in pain there wen he bends over or presses on bulge.

I know these are signs of a hernia and I know having undescended testicles (he had that corrected many yrs ago) makes it more likely for him to get hernia.

He told me the bulge is gone this morning but pcp says he doesnt feel a hernia??but I know a hernia bulge can be in and out ....so I will definitely take him to a specialist to see wats going on....but did anyone experience this where pcp says no hernia but there was a hernia???

2)does a pediatric urologist do this surgery or ???

3) how much school is missed after this surgery ???

4) did ur child have a hernia on both sides(I heard sometimes a hernia appears on the other side too later on)???

Pls share any info/experiences related to the above.

Thanks.

My three month old baby had hernia surgery due to a double hernia (both sides). Done by a pediatric surgeon in CHOP. My pediatrician had sent us to him for an opinion. They told me surgery recovery is nothing and the little kids they do it on are running around before leaving the hospital. Def wasn't the case but he was quite tiny!

My dad had one corrected at age 2. Diagnosis was confirmed by pediatric urologist who did the surgery. It was pretty quick, and once the anesthesia wore off he was totally fine.

The older a child is, the longer it takes to recover. Keep that it mind.

My baby had emergency surgery at a very young age for inguinal hernia by Dr. Aspelund in Colombia Morgan Stanley hospital. We were happy with her. I think she has switched to Westchester hospital since.

2 of my little brothers had hernia surgery, they where both fine as soon as the anesthesia wore off. They where supposed to be resting for the rest of the day but it was hard to keep them in bed/couch.
8 is a bit older though, the recovery might he a bit more difficult.

Thanks everyone for responding. I was asking what kind of Dr. Does the surgery and I see someone said a pediatric urologist. I know a great pediatric urologist and ill call tomorrow to ask if he does this kind of surgery

If not, I'm looking for a pediatric surgeon in long island.

Thanks.

He son had undesended testicles and they told us that if we ever see a bulge or something like that looked not right, we should take a picture because many times these things come and go and that way they can see what we saw even if it went back in by the time we got to the doctor.
