I remember whether I was a teacher & got gifts/tips from students for Chanukah, we sent thank you notes to parents, but if someone sent the gift/tip later than everybody, way after chanuka, when cards were sent already, it sometimes slips the mind to still send a card for this one parent. Same with bar mitzvah gifts...you send out all cards after simcha for all gifts...if someone sends a gift a half a year later....
