I’m not sure myself but it just didn’t sound right to start that sentence with please.
Just like you didn’t write now: “Please could you explain.” You wrote “could you please explain.”
But I’m not going off any rules, just the sound of it. “Please help me” sounds fine. “Please could you help me” doesn’t. I might be wrong. I’ll let the grammar pros weigh in.
ETA, now that I’m rereading it I wonder if I shouldn’t have used CAN instead of COULD.

'Please' can be placed at the beginning, middle or end of a sentence. That's my weigh in for you.

You made me curious enough to google it.
Seems like if you use “could you” you shouldn’t start the sentence with “please”... “please” should come after “you” or at the end of the sentence.
