My DS is an a Lakewood mesivta without English studies. (Let's save knocking the system for another thread).
He's behind his grade level in all subjects but motivated to catch up.
Can someone recommend some self-study books (mid/upper elementary level) or simple to understand textbooks. I'd start with math and english.
I rather not use a computer program but share that information as well.

What grade is he in?
I always used summer bridge books to make sure my kids were current with state guidelines. I never looked at NJ, but these books worked for NY which is probably close.

My primary concern isn't the state regulations. I just want him to have a working knowledge of what he's supposed to know.

The easiest way is to have interesting reading material available in your house, especially for over Shabbos when he has time. You can get books from both Jewish amd Jewish libraries. And magazines and newspapers.

I've used Khanacademy.org for my sons through the years. They have math lessons ranging from age KG thru calculus, as well as grammar, history, science and computer sciences courses. You can select a course, or an individual topic, or work through it in your own way. It's interactive as well, with video lessons, exercise activities and quizzes.
My son's earned their GEDs mostly through this site. And best of all, it's totally free.

I would use a different approach for different grades.

Can you buy the text books that other schools use?
