40% approve. 55% disapprove.

Record blowout in congress. Voters made their voices heard loud and clear who they want representing them. Voters want checks and balances. We want a constitutional republic, not a kleptocratic autocracy.

Amother babyblue,

What an appropriate color. I was taking my figures from the latest Gallup Poll which was taken last month.

Please tell me where you are getting your information from. Mine is easily verified.

You sound like a petulant teenager. Get over it. Most Americans don't approve of the rioting that took place after the election and the screaming at the sky stunts. Most Americans are for law and order.

So then they should be very supportive of the Mueller investigation.

Which compared to recent presidents isn’t bad - Reagan, carter, ford. It’s not even that much lower then Obama’s.
I’m shocked it’s so high after the shutdown.

I see how they took over the Senate loud and clear.

The landscape for the Senate in 2018 was completely unlike that for the House and more importantly completely unlike what it will be like in 2020.

In 2018 Senate Republicans had fewer seats to defend but most critical is that the seats being defended or theoretically in danger were in RED states.

The votes for Beto O'Rourke and Stacy Abrams in Texas and Georgia were astounding since it effectively turned Texas into a purple state for that election.

In 2020 the so-called purple states are up for grabs in the Senate and therefore the landscape favors the Democrats in those states.

What is really interesting is according to this trump is not popular then Obama at this point. Are the polls lying that much and so out of tune with society?

It keeps feeling like trump has a winning formula. He brings up topics his base and many other Americans are passionate about and most others are not passionate enough on the opposition.
Examples:
Late term abortion
Immigration
Lower taxes

It pushes the Democrats to then discuss
Late term abortion - doesn’t excite the base. Very few Americans heart is into supporting and it isn’t a ‘feel good’ stance. Creates horrible sound bites for trump.

Immigration - defending illegal immigration. Again not great talking points.

Raise taxes - makes horrible talking points even if just for rich. It scares everyone

I think the only way a democrat will win is if they never ever listen or respond to trump and run on a platform that Democrats reAlly do care about.

@aqua, the platform that Democrats really do care about is "not being Trump." A little hard to reason with that.

I really don't think anything will change because people already have their affiliations and only look for confirmation of what they already believe. The only change I think we can look forward to seeing from this is some really fun memes

The only people who can say that are people who ignore what is going on.

First and foremost, the first 2 years of Trump's presidency has been spent in trying to undo everything that Obama did, as an almost knee-jerk reaction. It was prety much Trump's platform. As Pence said, they want to undo "every single Obama executive order.”

And Democrats care about plenty of things.

They care about equal rights for all Americans.

They care about voting rights.

They care about preserving social security and medicare (Republicans habitually want to cut these)

They care about climate change

They care about ensuring educational access for all people in the US

They care about voting rights

They care about the environment

They care about sensible regulation of industry

(And at least I care about ensuring that publicly funded agencies not discriminate against Jews, Muslims and gays -- see https://www.nbcnews.com/featur.....mp-n962306)

They care about welfare

And much, much more

You can disagree as much as you like. But Democrats oppose Trump's POLICIES. Period.

I think the change will be within the Democratic Party. Already Pelosi is throwing shade on AOC and her green dream. The Wall Street Journal said The New Green Deal sounds like a Republican parody of the worst Democratic ideas with no airplanes, farting cows, and guaranteed income for those that don't want to work.
