Looking for some good ideas for the summer for my almost teen and teenager. We simply cannot afford camp or daycamp...
Any creative ideas? My older one needs a break from working in day camps, so something different than that please.
All ideas welcome!

Would she consider being a mothers helper in a camp?

Would she consider working with special needs kids. My DD was burned out by regular day camps. She works with special needs kids and loves it.

Oorah always looking. All the special camps. If they don’t want to be a counselor they can do a specialty like sports, baking. Etc

Special needs Camps will not hire counselors that are under 18 years old.
Maybe working in a special needs daycamp might be interesting.

I don't think special needs is her thing. She did some volunteer work for Hamaspik a couple times and it really wiped her out. Thanks for the suggestion tho...

If you're in NYC get her onto Youth Corp and have her try to get a position at a library or something like that?

She's not so outgoing, can't see her working in a store. Would love to see her learn something, maybe work one on one under someone. She'd be a great tutor also. She's very bright and conscientious.

Great! You probably have time to brainstorm together some ideas of what might interest her.

What about working in an office? Maybe some places take summer temps. One summer I did temp work in an elementary school they had just moved into a new building and I helped set up and organize the library.

My DD worked/volunteered at the Center in Lakewood at age 15 and 16. She moved on to sleep a way camps at age 17.

Once you come up with some options together, you'll have to contact the owners and find out if they would be interested. Make sure your dd is on board, because they will only be happy to have her around if she's actually happy to be there 😊
