To compose a poem for an occasion
Might seem overdone
But I'll admit (with some persuasion)
I actually find it fun.

Although you know that even prose
Will always sound appealing
Whatever is said, if the audience knows
That the words are full of feeling.

A boy is born, the mother glows
And all words feel just right
When mixed with chickpeas and teeny toes
For the Shalom Zachar night.

A new baby girl, a precious gift
Her little face oh so sweet
Ruffles and bows our spirits lift
Each new day feels a treat.

Swaddled in white and carried with pride
We go to baby's bris
Our feelings show in our smiles wide
We're so lucky to have this.

Bedecked with gold and silver too
He's carried on a tray
Finally this child belongs to you
On the Pidyon Haben today.

Long, curly locks too cute to cut
Will soon be shorn despite
Upshernish woes - it's painful but
He's no less a delight!

Our girl is little, just leaving two
Her face has always shone
But the world now shines anew
With the candle of her own.

A Tefillin bag and a hat on the shelf
Our boy becomes a man
He takes responsibility for himself
As a Bar Mitzvah boy now can.

With poise and a bashful beauty
A celebratory dress to twirl
An adult, she takes on the duty
It is our Bas Mitzvah girl.

And then, they find each other...
The missing half of their soul
True nachas for a father, mother
To reach this long-awaited goal.

For whatever the occasion
May joy and love and Mazel Tov
