Which is a good insurance that most doctors (dermatologist, dentist... for kids) in Brooklyn accept? I will definitely be asking my pediatrician, but I'm sure there are many options, so I'd like to hear people's experience with other insurances.
Thanks!!

Basically, your options are Fidelis, healthfirst, or empire blue cross blue shield if you have medicaid based insurance. Call your providers and see who accepts what before u make your choice. Find out how easy it is to get referrals with the insurance you prefer.

Healthfirst is easy because they don't require preauthorizations for specialists, you can just make an appointment with whoever, whenever. But I don't know how many docs in your area take it. So far I haven't had an issue, the people I was seeing before on UHC also take HF (my kids are on Child Health Plus. UHC had a horrible referral process.)

Hijacking this thread for a minute...
My pediatricians office called me to say that they are in the process of stopping to accept UHC. I am in NYC, specifically Williamsburg, and they mentioned Healthfirst and another one that I don't remember at the moment.
My kids have UHC through CHIP. What is the procedure to switch the HMO?

What I would do is call all the your current doctors and ask them which medicaid plans they accept. Try and find a common denominator that they all accept and go from there. Hatzlacha!

BCBS Healthplus is much better than Fidelis in terms of coverage of specialists. Fidelis doesn't cover nutritionists, for example. Some OBs take Healthplus but not Fidelis.
The only thing Fidelis covers extra that Healthplus does not is root canals so dentists are pushing it.
