I have my shalach manos pretty set. I have a box and two things to go inside it that fit nicely, that go together, and that I think people will enjoy. But they look kind of plain and bare in there. I feel like I need some sort of stuffing. Like that shredded paper birds-nest stuff? Or....? And what's that stuff called anyway?

Box is brown cardboard if that helps, and contents (and ribbon I plan to get) are in the natural/gold family...

I find that pretty tissue pulls things together better than raffia shreds or natural crinkle paper.

Thank you, Ra Mom.

I got the shredded stuff but didn't know what kind of tissue paper to get... Also... does it really matter if the box is totally closed? (Which actually leads me to another question... Should I change my idea entirely and give the contents, which look nice, in a transparent plastic bag instead?)

HELP. I am making myself crazy.

I would get a wide ribbon to wrap around the box, with a minimalist print on it, and put a large round sticker label over it. Get tissue paper for inside that coordinates with the ribbon.

The shredded stuff is called excelsior or artificial grass. I’d go with crushed tissue paper, frankly. The grassy stuff makes a dreadful mess and, being full of static, clings to everything and is hard to remove.

Those brown boxes look great with black tissue paper and the light contents stand out. But really any color you like would do. There is white and gold printed tissue paper and zebra print, all different types. Just bring the box to the store with you when you go shopping so you can see what you'd like to pair with it.

If you already have the shreds - just go with that!

And if the box doesn't close all the way, then tape it shut and wrap a ribbon around it to secure.

Happy Purim!

Thank you all for your help, Ra Mom, Zaq, and Amother! I switched to tissue paper and I am really happy with the result. It brightens up the whole look. I got pretty [in a small attempt to disguise myself, not going to write exact color here!] tissue paper that coordinates with the ribbon. And those boxes ain't so boring anymore...

I may yet be back... When I need to tie the bows. Cuz I see it's hard to tie a bow that stays and looks good. Though maybe that doesn't matter...

Okay, I'm open to any bow-tying tips.

All in all the pretty ribbon and tissue paper makes me smile to look at it and I MAY be starting to feel some joy in giving a pretty thing (vs stress of "how the heck do I do this?")

So thank you all.
