Whoops. Meant to post earlier...

A reminder for tehillim.

Refuah sheleima Sequoia, and good Yom tov.

Thank you for the reminder. It's such a busy day I might have forgotten otherwise.

Sequoia, thinking of you as a night of miracles approaches.

So what about those Ukranian elections? Is it good for the Jews? (Guess I should pm or start a new thread.)

Well, Ukraine is now the only country outside of Israel where both president and prime minister are Jewish.

So that’s pretty cool.

It’s a parliamentary republic, so the president doesn’t have a huge effect. I hope Z does a good job. Many people feel despondent at his lack of experience. Time will tell.

While it's "cool", no good can come out of it. He will always be blamed, by all sides there.
Refuah sheleima!

Yeah, I think we all find Jews in highest offices disconcerting.
But now that I think of it, maybe we should do a spinoff. A thread for tehillim shouldn't raise the subject's blood pressure Smile

I don’t find Jews in government at all disconcerting. We’re smart; why shouldn’t we be in politics?

What I DO find disconcerting is Americans telling other people how to vote.

No one is talking about Z being Jewish. No one. Not his supporters, not his detractors. Ukrainian voters don’t care. We don’t have stupid idiotic identity politics in Ukraine. We don’t have intersectionalism, we don’t have hierarchies of privilege and oppression, we don’t have endless discussions about that. You know what we have? A war with Russia. Salaries of $200/month. Utility bills that eat up about 90% of that.

We’re just not in the “first world problems” place.

Most of my friends didn’t vote for Z because they thought that he had no experience. And lots and lots of Ukrainians clearly liked him enough to vote for him despite that.

But the only ones talking about him being Jewish is you guys. Americans, in other words.

Anyway, Ukraine is a parliamentary, not presidential, republic, so the prime minister Groisman has a lot more say about day to day things.

I can take day 10 for this Shabbos. Can't commit for every week, though.
