I'm posting this here instead of my class chat because for my son's sake I want to be anonymous-Please please don't play secular music with garbage, inappropriate lyrics at your sons bar mitzva, even if it's in hebrew!! Anyone hear of too doo bum for example?? It's very upsetting!! My son goes to a mainstream yeshiva & now my son is saying we're "too yeshivish" because we won't play these "cool" songs at his bar mitzva! Parents-why are you sanctioning these songs? If we all didn't put them on for our kids it would be much less of a battle! I feel like the world & standards for our kids in general have really gone down even just since my older son was in middle school! Maybe this is also partly just a vent because I don't know what to do, I feel really upset about this whole thing!!!

I think many parents who are olim don't understand the words. It is difficult to understand the very slangy lyrics.

BTW, whereas Static and Ben El Tavori are not the best source of wholesome music, there is some very nice Israeli secular music out there.

I agree. But some ( totally myself ) don’t understand the words to know the difference. Not an excuse I am just saying

its "tudo bom".... and I hear you - I also think sufficiently sheltered kids wouldn't understand what they are listening to.

My girls school has dance (Chassidish school) and they only allow Jewish music.
So my daughter comes home with these crazy songs lately in Hebrew. I don't think the dance teacher gets that it's secular and she definitely doesn't understand the words.
(Hey Too Doo bum included)

Agreed on both points.

OP, if you're looking for cool, kosher Israeli pop music, then this is the current rave:

Geshmake gemara Smile

Just googled a bunch of Sruly&Netanel's music, and it's all clean, and fairly good. It would definitely fall under the category of "cool" for OP's purposes.

I thought the song is originally in Portuguese . The words Too Doo Bum or Bon) mean " It's really good"

Too Doo Bom is already old news long ago. No one listens to it anymore in Israel.
It is a very annoying song in any case, nothing to do with the words..

Certainly not a song that has managed to keep its popularity long term.

"Carnival here, like in Sao Paulo
Come and listen up, girl
Stop being a Cachaca
You're Spicy like a caipirinha
Babe, you're crazy
Let's close the space
If you think I'm from Brazil
How is it you're mocha colored?
Hand in hand let's raise our glass"
This is okay? For a frum boy?

Imo that’s mildly flirty and not so offensive, yes.
